The Four Axes

The first letters form your type code · neither pole is better than the other

These four axes follow structures established in political science · see how we measure →

01EconomyMarket 00%
Equality EMarket M

Values markets, growth, and free competition

An economy that grows on its own

You believe the free activity of individuals and businesses grows society as a whole. Competition and achievement deserve fair rewards, and state intervention should stop at what is truly necessary. You cherish self-reliance and the vitality of markets. The balance is complete when you also consider how to embrace those left behind by competition.

02DiplomacyNation 00%
World WNation N

Values national sovereignty, identity, and interest

Sovereignty and national interest first

You think of your country's interest and identity before anything else. Protecting sovereignty and security comes before the demands of the international community, and you treasure what has long been kept. Realism and a sense of responsibility are your strengths. Since closing too many doors can mean missed opportunities, flexibility to open up when needed helps too.

03CivilLiberty 00%
Liberty LAuthority A

Values individual freedom, rights, and checks on state power

Individual liberty first

You see individual freedom and rights as a line the state must not cross. Freedom of expression and assembly and private life must be protected, and power must be steadily watched and checked. Respect for diversity and autonomy is your strength. Your conviction matures further when you also weigh how to keep order for the moments when freedoms collide.

04SocietyTradition 00%
Progress PTradition T

Values tradition, stability, and proven customs

Tradition and stability

You give weight to long-proven values and customs. You prefer a gradual, stable path over abrupt change, and you cherish the traditions and pride of the community. Prudence and deep-rooted stability are your strengths. You become even more flexible by keeping a door open to new currents.

In This Room

A fun look at real historical figures mapped onto the four axes — not an academic classification

Cicero
Cicero106–43 BC
CICERO
Statesman and philosopher of the Roman Republic

Rising from a provincial family to Rome's highest office on merit alone, he defended private property and the republic's interest — and against dictatorship stood for liberty and the traditions of the ancestors.

José de San Martín
José de San Martín1778–1850
Liberator of Argentina, Chile, and Peru

He swept away the colonial trade monopoly and opened the ports to the ships of every nation, placing his peoples' independence above any foreign design; he tore down the Inquisition's torture cells, then walked away from power rather than let ambition breed civil war — living to the end by a soldier's austere code of duty, order, and honor.

The story of this type

The society you hope for

A society where taking as much as you put in is what's fair. Where you can stand on your own feet and make your own way without having to ask anyone for favors, and where the state doesn't lay careless hands on a person's life. And still a society where a kind person's well-being, the place you grew up, and old loyalties are not forgotten.

Underneath these hopes is a principle: strict on institutions, warm on people. So this stance trusts each person standing on their own and looking after those beside them out of feeling, more than the state stepping in to share things out. But there's a tension: it holds that each should carry their own weight, and yet it can't simply pass by a hard case in front of it — so it is always in a tug-of-war between principle and human feeling.

What you want

  • Holds that taking as much as you put in is fair, and backs self-reliance and the reward that matches it
  • Wants the state not to lay careless hands on a person's life, while keeping faith with the place you grew up and the people you owe

What you might miss

  • Seeing standing on your own as fairness, it can reckon less with how different each person's starting line or circumstances are
  • Prizing self-reliance, it can look down on help from the state or the community as 'dependence' even when it is genuinely needed

Overall Conclusion

Moderately conservative

Overall, you tilt slightly conservative. You respect stability and tradition, yet remain flexible enough to make progressive choices in some areas.

Across the four axes: progressive 1 · conservative 3 — it can differ by axis.

The progressive–conservative label is a rough guide based on how this test defines its axes.
